  • My immunity boosting morning routine

    My immunity boosting morning routine

It’s getting to that time of year where everyone has a cough or a cold. I stand on the tube in the morning trying to ignore the fact I am in a germ-ridden tin can. I’ve been incorporating these three superfoods into my morning routine for well over 3 months now and have seen my body develop what appears to be more of a resistance to the illnesses that are currently plaguing my office. Don’t get me wrong, they haven’t stopped me getting sick altogether, but they have 100% sped up my recovery time. The cold that my teammates are still recovering from I recovered from in 3 days.

Ok, so the first thing I do when I get up in the morning is put 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar (Raw, organic and with the mother) into my Starbucks tumbler and add room temperature water. I know some people who can drink apple cider vinegar neat, I am not one of those people! This invigorating tonic is the first thing I drink in the morning and it certainly wakes up my taste buds. Apple cider vinegar has long been hailed as a helpful weight loss aid, but it also has amazing detoxification properties and a unique set of vitamins and minerals. Apple cider vinegar contains malic acid, a strong anti-viral and perhaps the reasons I feel that I contract fewer colds than other people. In case you’re interested the brand I like to use is Biona organic, and remember to always get unfiltered ACV with the mother (the mother is a colony of beneficial bacteria)

At the same time as I make my ACV elixir, I pop the kettle on and peel a thumb size piece of ginger, chop it up into smaller chunks, add to a mug and pour over boiling water. This is perhaps the simplest way to make ginger tea and warms your whole body on these cold winter morning. I then sip on my warming ginger tea and ACV elixir whilst getting dressed and ready for the day ahead. Ginger has been scientifically proven to help rebalance the immune system, increase T-cell production (the good guys) and remove free-radicals from the body. Not bad for a pretty ugly root.

Ginger and Turmeric Tea for De-bloating

Finally, if you’ve read about my ‘morning drink for de-bloating’ you’ll know that I used to take turmeric in my ginger tea each morning. Although I love the taste of turmeric I was starting to see my teeth yellow as turmeric has a strong dying Dr Dunner, Turmeric capsulesproperty. Not wanting to remove turmeric from my routine I started taking it in capsule form. The Turmeric, Pepper and Green Tea capsules by Dr.Dunner were the perfect solution. It is well known that curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, is better absorbed by the body alongside pepper and these capsules have these ingredients ready together to ensure maximum absorption. Additionally, these little immunity boosting capsules contain green tea, another of my favourite antioxidants. I simply take one capsule in the morning and let them work their magic. There’s definitely a lot more convenience in taking my turmeric in capsule form, not to mention that my kitchen counter, and teeth, are a lot less yellow. I still use turmeric in cooking all the time, but for now, it’s staying out of my tea. Dr. Dunner has kindly given my readers 10% off their first order, simply use the code 4P5W9MBYM065 at the checkout.

It’s amazing the difference that such simple natural and readily available ingredients can have on your immunity and wellbeing. Give them a try and see for yourself!
